Prayers for His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Editor's Note: On January 14th, while on pilgrimage to Rajgir, where the Buddha turned the Wheel of the Dharma for the second time, His Holiness the Dalai complained of giddiness and gastro-intestinal problems. His Holiness subsequently was hospitalized in Mumbai (formerly Bombay) for treatment. His Holiness recovered fully and was discharged from the hospital. (More information is available at Karmapa News) Reminded again of the fragility of life, Nalandabodhi requests ongoing prayers for the long life of His Holiness.

The members of Nalandabodhi pray for the good health of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and for the longevity of his life. All students and friends of Nalandabodhi are requested to continue to pray for His Holiness'S long life and to continue to recite Tara mantras as originally detailed in the Request issued the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in January, 2002. The liturgy for Tara recitation is reprinted below.

REQUEST FOR THE RECITATION OF DOLMA PRAYER
(Draft translation by Masood Butt, Press Coordinator)

A young Dalai Lama

Recently, in Bodh Gaya, high lamas from various sects and Nechung Oracle was consulted in regard to His Holiness the Dalai Lama's well being and the smooth conduct of His Holiness' teaching programs. A divination by high lamas and the consultation of Nechung Oracle revealed that there is a need for the recitation of 100 million Dolma (Tara Mantra) prayer at the earliest possible. The Department of Religion and Culture requests all the concerned to recite the abovementioned prayer as many as possible.

Tara Supplication

I prostrate to TA-RE, the swift warrior;
She who withTU-TA-RE dispels fears,
Tara who bestows benefits through TU-RE,
To you of the letters SVA-HA, I bow down.

OM TARE TUTARE TURE SVAHA
