For the first time, The Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche teaches
on his new book, Wild Awakening: The Heart of Mahamudra
and Dzogchen. These two traditions are regarded equally
as pinnacles of the spiritual journey. In Wild
Awakening,
The Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche presents a vivid portrait
of these two paths, which offer students a variety
of approaches to meditation practice and a vast array
of
skillful means through which one's confusion is recognized
and transformed into wisdom.
Rinpoche reminds us that if we intend to practice these
traditions, then it is imperative to prepare ourselves
thoroughly for what lies ahead. It is essential that
we reflect on our motivation, become certain of our
goal, and then whole-heartedly apply all of our faculties
to
our journey. From Wild Awakening:
"The Buddha taught that there is no enlightenment
and no wisdom outside our own minds. From this perspective,
what we gain from teachers, from scriptures or from following
the spiritual path through all its stages is not something
new or external to us. When we follow the path, we simply
gain more skillful methods to uncover our own wisdom
and our own enlightenment. The teachings of the Mahamudra
and Dzogchen paths show us that wisdom and enlightenment
are found right within our emotions and right within
our ordinary world.
"The paths of Mahamudra
and Dzogchen are the most immediate routes to this realization… Their
instructions and methods function like extremely precise
and powerful
energy-recycling machines that are capable of processing
in an instant all our karmic hangovers, residues and
refuse. If we have reflected on our motivation and know
why we are here, if we are certain about our goal and
if we can apply all the power, energy and sharpness of
our inquisitive mind to our journey, then—and only
then—are we prepared to enter the most profound
paths of Mahamudra and Dzogchen."
