Life of a Yogi Scholar

Khenchen Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche

Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso RinpocheRinpoche has no fixed abode, few possessions; and he has practiced for years in solitude, sometimes sealed in darkness. Like Milarepa, he is known for his spontaneous songs of realization (Skt. "dohas") that offer insight into genuine reality. Such songs may emerge to answer  a question, clarify a difficult point, or to expand or comment on one of Milarepa's own songs.

Marpa Institute

The Institute was founded to further Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche's work of training capable and dedicated translators. As Buddhism spreads in the West, the need for translators increases with each passing year. The fruitful practice of Dharma depends greatly on access to authentic sources of knowledge, both through texts, which carry the wisdom of centuries of study and practice, and through the oral commentary and personal guidance of qualified teachers.

Spiritual Head of Nalandabodhi

Khenpo Rinpoche is the spiritual head of Nalandabodhi, and the main teacher of Nalandabodhi's founder, the Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche. One of Khenpo Rinpoche's songs, The Essential Points of Madhyamaka, Mahamudra and Dzogchen, provides the guidance for Nalandabodhi's study and practice curriculum.

Khenpo Rinpoche has also been instrumental in supporting the establishment of Nalanda West, where Nalandabodhi presents a genuine tradition of Buddhist study, meditation, and compassionate activity. In addition, Khenpo Rinpoche guides Nitartha Institute, the premier program for the rigorous study of the essential logical and practical traditions of the Nyingma and Kagyu lineages.
