The Nalandabodhi Lineage
During the 2500 year history of Buddhism, the teachings have spread from India to the other countries of Asia, including Tibet. Nalandabodhi is connected with the Nyingma and Kagyu schools of Tibetan Buddhism, two of the great schools of Buddhism, which were established in Tibet during the first millennium.

In the eighth century, while the great buddhist traditions were flourishing in India, King Trisong Detsen invited a great abbot of Nalanda, the leading Buddhist university in ancient India, and an incomparable Vajra master of India, to Tibet. Together, they established buddhism to Tibet.

The Kagyu Lineage
The essence of the Kagyu lineage is described by its name. The first syllable "Ka" refers to the scriptures of the Buddha and the oral instructions of the guru. The word carries a sense of enlightened vision and has the connotation of a wisdom command. The second syllable "gyu" means lineage or tradition. So, together, Kagyu means "the lineage of the oral instructions."
